Fresh picked fruits and vegetables Fruit trees and plants, such as apples, peaches, pears, plums, blueberries and grapes, generally grow best when they get plenty of sun and water, so no matter what you plant make sure you're planting in the sunniest part of your property.

As with many other types of plants and trees, most fruit varieties grow best in well-drained soils with average fertility. When planting a fruit tree or plant plant them as you would most other shrubs and trees.

Proper fertilization of fruit trees and plants will be important as well.

There are various methods for pruning fruit trees and plants. Some pruning methods, such as those for muscadines, pomegranates and blackberry are quite basic and easy to perform, while methods for pruning grape vines and certain types of fruit trees require more detailed techniques. But hey, detailed pruning can be a very therapeutic gardening task:)

As most veteran fruit gardeners know fruit bearing plants tend to attract more insects than other plants. Let's face it, there's no hiding from the fact that insects really like fruit trees. Thing is, many insects that visit fruit trees will not cause serious damage or problems. Much of the problems with insects can be kept at a minimum by following some basic guidelines for preventing insects on fruit trees and plants in your garden.

In summary, if you plant fruit trees in the right place and in the right soil, and follow a few basic guidlines for care, before you know it you'll be eating fresh fruit grown in your own backyard!
